| Step One: Turn off electricity to light fixture at main service panel. Remove lobe by loosening the retaining screws. Remove mounting screws or turn fixture slightly to free it from loosened screws. Gently pull fixture away from box to expose wires. |
Step Two: Twist off wire nuts, being careful not to touch wires. To test for current, touch one probe of circuit tester to bare black wire. Touch other probe to bare white wire, then to metal box. Flip wall switch and repeat test. If tester does not light at any time, the wires are safe to touch. |

| Step Three: Untwist wires; remove fixture. Attach alligator clip of continuitytester to bare black wire, and touch probe to spring metal contact tab. Move clip to white wire and touch probe to metal base of socket. If tester fails to light in either position, then replace fixture. |
Step Four: Select a replacement fixture that has the same ratings as old fixture. To avoid ceiling repair, choose new fixture with base as wide, or wider, than old fixture. Follow manufacturer's directions to hang new fixture. |

| Step Five: Twist together copper strands of black fixture wire. Attach to black circuit wire with a wire nut. Twist ogether copper strands of white fixture wire, then attach to white circuit wire. |
Step Six: Make sure any insulation is in place on new fixture. Fold wires in gently, then lift light fixture flush to box. Attach and tighten mounting screws. Replace light bulb and globe. |
